Senior Choir
The Senior Choir was founded in 1974 and has been one of the most outstanding choirs in Hong Kong. Under the guidance and supervision of our former music teacher, Mr. Lee Tak Kwan, Senior Choir won numerous championships and awards for years at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. Besides winning in competitions, we are much honoured to have been invited by the government to perform in ceremonies for many legislative years in the colonial era. 2007 is the twelveth year of the Senior Choir from the re-establishment. The choir consists of many talented members who are students from Form 4 to Form 6. We aim to arouse Wahyanites’ interest in music and increase their vocal ability, not to mention their sense of belonging to the school. This year we participated in Senior Mixed choir in Chinese in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. We are honoured to have the Senior Choir of Ying Wa Girls’ School as our choir partner school and we capture the 1st runner up with our carefully chosen piece 苗家少女. Apart from that, we are glad to have Mr. Lesley Ka-Hei Chan as our conductor. Intermediate Choir
The Intermediate Choir was formed in 1952. It aims at arousing students’ interest in music, increasing their vocal ability and the sense of belonging to school. Our choristers this year include volunteers form F.1 to F.4 In the early years, under the headship of Mr. Lee Tak Kwan in 80s, the choir gained tremendous applause from the audience. Since 1972 till now, the Intermediate Choir achieved excellent results in various competitions, especially in the Hong Kong School Music Festivals, This year we participated in Intermediate Boys choir in Chinese in the 59th Hong Kong music Festival, capturing the 1st running up. Apart from that, we are glad to have Mr. Lesley Ka-Hei Chan being our conductor. With his profound musical knowledge we benefited a lot at many choral aspects. Junior Choir
The Junior Choir was formed in 1991 for young singers with treble voice in F.1-3. This year is the 16th year since its establishment and the Choir has our school music teacher, Mr. K.H. Chan, as teacher advisor. The Choir participated in the 59th Schools Music Festival in March and got the 3rd place in the treble voice boys’ choir section. This is the third time Junior Boys’ Choir got a place in the Music Festival since 1997 and 1991 (excluding the mixed choir competitions). Members gained much experience from the competition and this helped the Choir to make improvements in music ability. String Orchestra
Since early 1990s the String Orchestra of Wah Yan College, Kowloon has served as a medium and platform for talented string players to work together with other and to make progress on their skills and musical sense. Besides, it provides different kinds of performance throughout each year. The Orchestra is currently instructed and conducted by Mr. Woo Zhun Hin. Mr. Woo Zhun Hin received his B.M. in violin performance studying under Professor Michael Ma at the University of Oklahoma. He later went to pursue a Masters degree in Orchestra Conducting at the University of Missouri Columbia under the guidance of Edward Dolbashian. During this time, he confounded the MU Chamber Soloist, served as the assistance conductor of the Columbia Civic Orchestra for three years and conducted operas and musicals in the region. He also participated at the conducting workshop in the Pierre Monteux School for Conductors for two summers in Maine. Mr. Woo is currently a violinist in the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Resident Conductor of the Hong Kong Medical Association Orchestra. Besides, he also conducts at various schools throughout the region, and he conducts the String Orchestra of Wah Yan College, Kowloon since 2001.Under Mr. Woo’s leading, Our members have improved collaboration skills. In July 2003, he recorded the soundtrack for the movie Heroic Duo with the Shenzhen Symphony. Chinese Orchestra
我校中樂團始於「中樂小組」,在1983年成立,至今已有二十多年歷史。自89年來,樂團由香港中樂團成員盧偉良先生指揮及帶領,甚獲好評,各團員於屢次校際音樂節的表現皆令人滿意。中樂團向來以推廣中樂為己任,加深華仁仔對中國音樂和樂器的認識及興趣,並培養各團員互助、團結的精神。因此,不論是練習、表演,或是比賽,樂團都會盡力,做到最好。 Wind Band
The Wind Band was established in 2000. Most of our members are Form 2 to 4 students. We have Mr. Fong To as our conductor this year. The Wind Band also performs in lots of different occasions, such as Speech Day, the Hong Kong School Music Festival. These performances have met the aim of the Wind Band which provides woodwind, brass and percussion players with opportunities to develop their talents through rehearsals and performances. It is also an organization which requires a sense of unity and belonging. Symphony Orchestra
The Symphony Orchestra was formed last year by a group of students who were interested in string and wind instruments. It aims at enhancing musicianship of students in our school by providing rehearsals and performances. Under the the supervision and guidance of our advisor Mr. Chan Ka Hei, our conductor Mr. Woo Zun Hin and Mr. Fong To, the Symphony Orchestra has successfully fostered our members’ interest in orchestral music and enable them to enjoy music. This year, the Symphony Orchestra consists of about 40 members and we practice every week to prepare for several performances. At Christmas, we had a performance held by The Wah Yan One Family, and we joint the musicians from Wah Yan College, Hong Kong. With our effort, the Symphony Orchestra had a great performance and we all gained from this experience. In the future, the Symphony Orchestra would have more and more challenges, but we will strive against them all with the pleasure in playing music. Accompanist Group
The Piano Accompanist Group (also known as pianist group) is founded in 2003. It is a group of pianists who are interested in music; they together contribute to the school. It aims at training accompanists, coordinating with chorus, players of other musical instruments and vocal singers. The group provides opportunities for accompanists to experience musical accompaniments and piano performances. Throughout a year, accompanists take part in different chorus as a main job, accompanying School Choirs, singing groups, soloists and other instruments. Besides, accompanists also participate in competitions in Hong Kong School Music Festival, Annual Concert etc. Accordingly, in-group meeting is held on every week. During a meeting, members would have sight-reading and oral tests. Members may also share their experiences on performing music. The meeting, in other words, is a music lesson, since piano performance skills and techniques are being taught. Being supervised and supported by music teacher, Mr. Chan Ka Hei, the Piano Accompanist Group has been a branch of Music Association since the November of 2005. Recently, the group picks up the appointment and takes part in many musical activities. With the effort and cohesion of all accompanists and the support of music teachers, the Piano Accompanist group will be further improved. Pop Music Society
The Pop Music Society aims at raising students’ interest in pop music and increasing their knowledge of how a performance works. We will recruit members every year from F.1 to F.7 Every year we will perform in Christmas Party, lunch-time concert and the Annual Concert. Besides, we will also help to organize the singing contest in school. In addition, we are glad to have Mr. Lesley Ka-Hei Chan being our advisor. Our knowledge and skills would be improved with his guidance. |
